How to Change Up Your Workout Routine

If you’ve been doing the same types of workouts for a while now, you’re probably getting a bit bored with your routine. It’s best for motivation, and for your physical strength, to switch things up every now and then, and incorporate new types of movement into your routine. Try the following tips to change up your workout routine.

Join a Class

One great way to change up your workout routine is to find a workout class to join at your local gym or studio. There are hundreds of different types of fitness classes out there, each of which can give you a new way to work out, and fresh motivation to do so. For example, if you love biking, you can try taking a spin class. This involves stationary bikes, as well as exciting lights and music, and can bring a lot of energy into that room. You can also try workouts that you’ve never done before, such as Tabata or barre or hot yoga. Each of these can help you work new muscle groups and learn new ways to move your body in your workouts.

Play a Competitive Sport

Another option for switching up your workout routine is to join a competitive sports team. There’s no need to get too intense about it, as there are many community sports teams in your area that you can join. For example, you and some of your friends could join a local soccer, football, basketball, or frisbee team and play games in your area. This keeps you active, but takes away some of the seriousness of gym workouts. Playing sports is fun enough that you may even forget you’re working out at the moment. However, these can be some of the most effective workouts to get yourself into shape. Just be sure to wear all the right protective equipment while you play to stay safe. Wearing a mouthguard while playing contact sports helps you avoid jaw or teeth injuries.

Set a New Goal

If you’re feeling a little stuck in your workout routine, it could be helpful to set a new goal that’s outside of your comfort zone. Many people find that, once they get into a rhythm in their workouts, they can reach a plateau. If you find yourself in this situation, set a goal that you’ll need to push yourself to reach. If you’ve only been doing smaller, shorter runs for cardio, you could set a goal to run a half marathon–or even a full marathon! This gives you a definitive date by which you need to be able to run that many miles.
